| The Maritime Officers' Association, MOA, was founded in 1907. It
was masters and chief officers who started the association, but in the forties
the radio officers joined the association and in the end of the sixties
the catering officers. |
| Today MOA represents 7000 members in the swedish merchant fleet, the
swedish-owned foreign flag ships and other foreign ships. The members are divided into three sections;
nautical, engineers and catering officers. |
| The Maritime Officers' Association is not only a trade union, it
is also a branch organization that takes care of the interests of the members,
for example in questions of training and education, management, maritime
safety and environmental protection, and has a direct influence on legislation
and politics concerning shipping. |
| The Maritime Officers' Association participates internationally in
the Swedish delegation at the IMO, International Maritime Organization,
and ILO, International Labour Organization. |
| MOA is affiliated member of IFSMA, International Federation of Shipmasters'
Associations, and ITF, International Transport Workers' Federation. |
| Within Scandinavia the Maritime Officers' Association is represented
in Nordic Transport Workers' Federation (NTF), Nordic Ship Officers' Congress
(NFBK). |
| The Maritime Officers' Association has a main office
in Stockholm and a sub-office in Gothenburg with a total number of 20
employees. |
| MOA edits a periodical "Sjöbefälen" with 8 editions
a year.
